The Ooni Koda 16 isn’t a grill, but it lives on the same patio and appeals to the same backyard enthusiast. At 950°F — temperatures no home oven can reach — it creates authentic char-blistered Neapolitan pizza in under 90 seconds. That’s worth covering.
Performance
The L-shaped flame at the rear of the stone creates even heat distribution across the 16″ cordierite baking board. Preheat to full temp takes about 20 minutes. Once hot, cook times are genuinely 60-90 seconds. The stone holds heat well enough to cook 6-8 pizzas back to back without major temperature drops.
Build Quality
Powder-coated carbon steel body, weighs 40 lbs — portable but substantial. No legs to fiddle with (unlike wood-fired Ooni models). The gas hose is 3 meters and connects to a standard propane regulator. Folds flat for storage.
Learning Curve
Launching pizza into a 950°F oven without burning yourself or tearing the dough takes practice. An infrared thermometer (to check stone temp), a good pizza peel, and a few failed launches are part of the journey. By session 3, most people have it dialed in.
Verdict
If you’re serious about outdoor cooking and pizza is in your rotation, the Koda 16 is the best gas-powered outdoor oven at its price point. It does one thing and does it better than anything else in the category.
